Mussoorie also known as Queen of Hills is situated approximate 34km from Dehradun at the average altitude of 2,000 meters in the Garhwal hills. This hill station, situated in the foothills of the Himalaya ranges covered area of 65 sq km. Mussoorie offers snow ranges to the north-east, and glittering views of the Doon Valley and Shiwalik ranges in the south and pleasant atmosphere. Other major Hindu pilgrimage sites like Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Haridwar, Rishikesh are the main excursions of this place. The name Mussoorie is derived from 'mansoor', a shrub which is indigenous to the area. The town is in fact often referred to as 'Mansoori' by locals.  This hill station gradually developed as a centre of education, business, tourism and beauty.

Geography :Mussoorie is located at 30°27′N 78°05′E/ 30.45, 78.08. It has an average elevation of 1,826 meter.

Jwalaji Temple :
It is situated on Benog hills approximate 9 kms to the west of Mussoorie and at an altitude of 2104 meter. This temple is dedicated to Mata Durga .The temple is surrounded by thick forests and offers a panoramic view of the Himalayan peaks, Doon valley and Yamuna valley. It is one of the most popular Hindu temple in Northern India



Gun Hills :
Gun hills are the second height peak of Mussoorie. The ame is originated from the pre-independence days when a gun mounted on this second highest peak of Mussoorie was fired to herald mid-day, thus enabling people to adjust their watches .These are located 400meters from Rope way. Gun Hill offers a beautiful panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges namely Bunderpunch, Srikantha, Pithwara and Gangotri group etc. and a bird's eye view of Mussoorie town and Doon Valley.

Mussoorie Lake:
It is situated on Mussoorie- Dehradun road and is about 6 kms from Mussoorie. It is a delightful and newly developed picnic spot. It offers fantastic view of Doon Valley, nearby villages and boating is also available here.







The camel’s back road:
It covers total distance of about 3 kms and starts from Kulri Bazaar near Rink Hall and ends at Library Bazaar .This road is named after the camel rock. The main charm of this road is horse riding and walking. Sunset view of the Himalayas is superb. Camel's Rock with a life like resemblance can be seen from the spot near Mussoorie Public school.

Tiger Falls: Tiger falls are 5 km away from Chakrata. This is one of the famous picnic spot which is surrounded by beautiful natscenic beauty.

How to reach Mussoorie

By Air: The Jolly Grant airport caters to the air transport to Mussoorie. There are regular flights that link Mussoorie with Delhi.

By Rail: The railhead at Mussoorie caters to the rail transport to the hill resort. The Mussoorie Express links Delhi to Mussoorie.

By Road: Mussoorie also boasts of excellent road network. There are direct buses from Delhi to Mussoorie, along with private taxis. Regular buses ply between Dehradun and Mussoorie. Private taxis and shared taxis are also available for transportation. For transportation in and around Mussoorie you have hand pulled rickshaws, taxis and cars available.
