Kanpur is one of the famous city of Uttar Pradesh .The History of Kanpur is related to the time of Mahabharata. It is believed that The Duriyodhana son of the Dhiurdharashtra is king of Hasthinapur, they donated this area to Karna, he was known as a great warrior like Arjuna. So this place was known as Karnapur and later became Kanpur. Some people believe that it was founded by one Hindu king by name Chandel. It was named after Lord Krishna as Kanhiyapur, which name in the later years changed to Kanpur. Upto the 1st half of the 18th century Kanpur continued to survive as an insignificant village, the two areas in Kanpur viz., the area of Bithoor and Jajmau were famous from legendary times. It has been mentioned in Hindu mythology that Lord Brahma performed Ashvamedh Yajna (scarification of Horse) here after creating the Universe. It was here in an Ashram that the great poet Valmiki wrote Ramayana. Mata Seeta, wife of Lord Rama, is believed to have spent her days in the same Ashram after her exile. Today Kanpur is famous for its major Industry. It also has one of the top educational institutions. Kanpur is also very famous for its leather products and cotton wears. Unfortunately, because of the heavy industrialization, Kanpur is also famous for its pollution

The Kanpur Memorial Church

The Church was designed by Walter Granville, architect of the East Bengal Railway in 1875, in honor of the British who lost their lives in the war of 1857. The complete Church in Lombardic Gothic style is handsomely executed in bright red brick, with polychrome dressings. The interior contains monuments to the mutiny, including several memorial tablets. In a separate enclosure to the east of the church is the Memorial Garden, approached through two gateways

Shri Radhakrishna Temple :( J.K.Temple):

Shri Radhakkarishna temple is the most magnificent temple built by J.K. Trust. It is the mixture of ancient architecture with the modern. The mandaps even- level roof have been provided freshing air and sufficient light. Among the five shrines in the temple The central one is dedicated to Shri Radhakrishna and the others have idols of Shri Laxminarayan, Shri Ardhanarishwar, Shri Narmadeshwar and Shri Hanuman

Jain Glass Temple

One of the most wondering and magnificent temple decorated with beautiful glasses and enamel. It’s located in Maheshwari Mahal behind the Kamla Tower.

Allen Forest Zoo


One of the most visited zoological park of not only Kanpur but also whole of India. It is an ideal place for outdoor life and picnics amongst picturesque surroundings. The zoo has number of animals, birds and reptiles. The zoo opened in 1971 by the government of independent India. Many visitors come here for picnic purpose.

Phool Bagh

It is a beautiful park in the heart of the city on the Mall Road. In the centre of the park is a building known as Ganesh Shanker Vidyarthi Memorial. After the First World War there was an Orthopedic Rehabilitation Hospital in this building. It is now known as Ganesh Udyan.
