Ujjain is an ancient city of Malwa in central India on the eastern bank of the Kshipra River . It is the administrative centre of Ujjain District as well as Ujjain Division. This city also known as  Ujjayini. It is one of the seven sacred cities of the Hindus and the religious festival Kumbh Mela is held there every after twelve years. It is also home to Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines to the god Shiva. It is  an elegant city which glorifies the Mauryan age of India. Asoka had been the great King of Ujjain, his memories are sharply linked in every nook and corner of the city of Ujjain. He always trying to expand his empire beyond its present boundaries. But afterwards, the sight of thousands of dead bodies at the Kalinga War changed his mind and he embraced Buddhism that preaches the doctrine of Universal Love. The soil of Ujjain is black and stony. The vegetation is typical of arid regions with thorny trees like babul and acacia dominating the landscape. Soybean, wheat, jowar and bajra are the main crops grown.

Geography :Ujjain is situated on the Malwa Plateau in Central India.  Ujjain is located at 23°10′58″N 75°46′38″E / 23.182778, 75.777222. It has an average elevation of 491 meters.

Ram Ghat :The city is situated on the eastern bank of the Kshipra River. Ram Ghat is the oldest bathing ghat in Ujjain and has been used for that purpose for a s long as the Kumbh Mela has been held. Kumbhmela is held in every 12 years at Ujjain .Ram Ghat is the most ancient bathing ghat in connection to the Kumbh celebrations. During the Kumbhmela lakhs of merit-seekers flock the city from each and every corner of the world and from all over .



Bade Ganeshji Ka Mandir : Bade Ganeshji Ka Mandir glorifies the city of Ujjain, is dedicated to Ganeshji. Ganesh is considered to be the most benevolent God that blesses his followers with wealth and prosperity. He has a very sweet figure with a tusK of an elephant and is considered to be the favorite son of Parvati or Goddess Durga. It is located very near the MahaKaleshwar Temple. The entire phrase Bade Ganeshji Ki Mandir means The Temple of the Big Ganesh Statu

Kaliadeh Palace : The Kaliadeh Temple is located on the banks of the River Shipra and is the most visited sites of the state of Madhya Pradesh. It is like an isle that is separated by a small stretch of water that makes it look more elegant. It is also known to all that the lost glory of the Sun Temple has also being restored by the same Madhav Rao Scindia.

Kal Bhairava temple : Lord Kal Bhairava is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is beileved that the "Time lost is lost forever", so one should make a good use of time in Life. The Kal Bhairava Temple is the place where Lord Kal Bhairava is being worshipped at Ujjain. This is a must see for the devotees of the Shaivaites. The Shaivites worship eight Bhairavas and of them the Kal Bhairava is the most important. It is thought that the temple of Kal Bhairava has been erected by the King Bhadrasen



How to reach Ujjain

By Air: The nearest airport to Ujjain is Indore. There are daily flights from Indore to Mumbai , Kolkata, Delhi, Bhopal and Ahmadabad.

By Rail: There are mainly three major railway stations in Ujjain, that include Ujjain City Junction, Vikram Nagar and Chintaman (metre gauge). There are regular trains that connect Ujjain to other important cities in India.

By Road: The well known bus stations in Ujjain are Dewas Gate and NanaKheda. The major roads that connect Ujjain to other cities in India include Agar Road, Indore Road, Dewas Road, Maksi Road and Badnagar Road. A huge number of private buses ply on these roads.
